At least one person has been killed and another two are in critical condition following a ‘major explosion’ that destroyed at least three homes in Baltimore on Monday morning and threw victims, including children, under the rubble.
Baltimore firefighters confirmed one person was pronounced dead at the scene and another person is still trapped under the rubble in what emergency services have declared ‘a major incident’ at Reisterstown Road.
Two other victims have been pulled from the rubble and remain in critical condition.
The ages and identities of the victims are not yet known.

Local firefighters were called to the area of the 6500 block of Reisterstown Road on Monday morning after several houses exploded.
Early reports said five people, including children, were trapped inside and that a response to a column and second alarm was called.
Baltimore police scanners said they were responding to a ‘massive casualty’ that affected a three-block radius and ‘completely destroyed’ three homes.
‘We are borderline mass victims at this point. This explosion has affected at least a three-block radius here, ‘said a police scanner.
‘Three houses completely destroyed.’
Three victims in a critical condition were briefly rescued by firefighters from the rubble, with one person later pronounced dead at the scene.
