Dreamteam Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray reunite for the filmmaker’s latest feature, adding Rashida Jones to their fresh comedy.
Dreamteam Sofia Coppola and her frequent muse Bill Murray are back on track, serving up a newly released new feature that brings Rashida Jones and Marlon Wayans to their film advantage, set against the backdrop of some wild nights in New York City. While Coppola and Murray last worked together on the 2015 Netflix special ‘A Very Murray Christmas’, the upcoming comedy-drama of A24 and Apple marks their first theatrical release together in the 17 years since “Lost in Translation”, which Coppola won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and Nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Murray.
The film follows “making a young New York mother with sudden doubts about her marriage [who] beats together with her bigger playboy father than life. The film is considered “a sparkling comic adventure about the city – father and daughter get closer together, despite the diversion to the other,” the film will see Coppola gamely approach a “mixture of a passionate love letter to New York, a generation- generational comedy about how we view relationships differently from our parents, and a funny celebration of the complications that bind modern families, even when they tie us in crazy knots. “
Per official synopsis of the film: ‘Laura (Rashida Jones) thinks she’s happily hooked, but when her husband Dean (Marlon Wayans) starts logging into the office late hours with a new employee, Laura starts to get scared of it least. She turns to the one man she suspects has insight: her charming, impulsive father Felix (Bill Murray), who insists they are investigating the situation. As the two begin to crawl into New York at night, taking care of uptown parties to downtown hotspots, they discover in their hearts the relationship of their journey. ‘
Earlier this year, Coppola finally spoke about the new film during an interview with 92Y, sharing: ‘It’s kind of a clash of how they look at relationships and also how your relationship with your parent enters your relationships. affects your life. … It’s both as father and daughter on a little adventure to spy on their husband. It talks a lot of them about life and men and women about martinis in New York. ”
“On the Rocks” was the first film announced by A24 under its new partnership with Apple TV +. Coppola last worked with A24 during the release of “The Bling Ring.” While A24 and AppleTV + have not yet announced their specific release plans, the current trailer comes with a bit of a tease: It will be available in theaters en on AppleTV + this October.
