While Windows and OS Cause users have been enjoying their flavors of Dark Mode for the last several years, Chrome OS users are sadly missing out on the fun. However, thanks for watching the latest by Android Police On the Chrome OS Canary channel, it looks like Chrome OS users can now join the Dark Mode Hype Train.
We reported back in September that Google Chrome works internally on dark and light themes suitable for the OS. The system-wide feature is still in its early stages of development and is not yet officially ready to come to a stable channel, but if you have a Chromebook and are itching to start using today’s feature, you can do just that. Just open Chrome on your Chombook and then copy and paste Chrome: // flags / # enable-force-dark And Chrome: // flags / # enable-webui-dark-mode In the URL bar, where you can turn on both flags in the drop-down menu.
Although the feature is not fully ready and there are definitely some bugs in Squash, it already works on the Chrome browser and a bunch of different system web applications. The dark theme already seems like a pretty comprehensive feature, as it applies not only to the app background, but it also applies to other UI elements.
Dark Mode has been in high demand for any OS for some time now for its benefits on eye strain and general readability. Even if you are not a fan of Dark Mode, you have to admit that trying a new look on your current device always refreshes it.
