Final Fantasy VII Remake 2 now in development, ‘You’ll wait a bit,’ says Square Enix

Final Fantasy VII Remake 2

Key members of the Final Fantasy VII Remake development team have talked more about its sequel, which is apparently now in full swing. “I fully understand the importance of releasing a follow-up soon. We want to deliver as quickly as possible. We have understood where the quality level should be this time as well,” director Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu (according to the Gematsu translation).

“For the next game, we plan to release something even higher quality and even more enjoyable than the first game, as fast as possible,” continues Nomura. “When we announce the next game, we hope to also clarify our future plans.”

But how far it is Final Fantasy VII Remake 2, or what is it called? Judging from the team’s comments, it is clearly difficult to say. “The development of the next game has already started and we are working hard. They will wait a bit, but look forward to it,” said co-director Naoki Hamaguchi. Your guess is as good as ours.

There are some more interesting comments sprinkled throughout the interview. For starters, Nomura had no idea that Jessie would be so popular. Roche was apparently set to appear in a final battle near the end of the game, but the team went against the idea after deciding it ruined the serious tone. And Hamaguchi says fan feedback has been heard regarding the classic mode used on a more difficult difficulty. Hopefully the sequel offers more options.
