Figure skating star Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya dies at age 20 suspected of suicide – RT Sport News


Russian figure skater Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya, who represented Australia internationally, died in Moscow at the age of 20, according to Russian media reports.

Details of the tragedy are still emerging, though Russian media outlet TASS reports that Alexandrovskaya is believed to have committed suicide by jumping from an apartment window.

According to a source quoted by the agency, the former skate star left a note reading “I love you).”

The Moscow-born pair skater switched allegiance in 2016 after partnering with Australian skater Harley Windsor, twice winning the Australian national title and also claiming gold at the 2017 World Youth Championships in Taipei.

The couple also took first prize at the Junior Grand Prix Final in Nagoya the same year, becoming the first Australian champions in the history of the event.

Alexandrovskaya and Harley also competed at the senior level, finishing 18th at the Winter Olympics at PyeongChang in 2018.

The couple was forced to withdraw from a series of events during 2019, then broke up when health problems forced Alexandrovskaya to withdraw.
