Feds say 74 accusations as a result of protests in Portland


Portland protests have led to federal and misdemeanor actions against 74 people, federal prosecutors said Thursday.

Many are accused of failing to comply with a legal order or assaulting a federal officer. Four allegations of arson as attempted arson.

All but six of the arrests occurred between July 20 and July 31 — in response to the sometimes violent clashes between Protestants and federal law enforcement agents deployed to the city by President Trump.

Black Lives Matter protests against excessive police force and racism have been going on in Portland for more than 90 days. The feeds said on many nights, after peaceful demonstrations ended, several public and private buildings were the target of vandalism and destruction.

“Violent agitators have hijacked any semblance of activity by First Amendment hijackers, engaging in violent criminal acts and destroying public safety,” said Portland U.S. Attorney Billy Williams.

“While the FBI supports and safeguards the activities and civil rights of the Constitution, there is no permit for abuse, arson or damage to property, and these are not crimes without victims,” ​​said Renn Cannon, special agent responsible for the FBI in Oregon.

Of those arrested, Williams’ press release identified 63 people.

They include Jacob Gains, accused July 11 of three times a U.S. marshal with a hammer.

They also include Gabriel Agard-Berryhill, 18, accused of throwing a large fuel device at the Portland Federal Courthouse on July 28. Federal investigators visited social media they said Agard-Berryhill threw the object.
