“If we reach the 4th of July with the rollout of the vaccine, we have got the level of infection so low – I can’t tell you exactly what the specific guidelines of the US (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) are,” he said. But I can tell you for sure that (the guidelines) they will be more generous than you can do now, ”said Jack of CNN, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “Their cases dropped. They became obese and they withdrew public health measures,” he said. “They’ve opened restaurants. They’ve opened some bars. The little ones in particular have stopped wearing masks. All of a sudden you have a boom that’s exactly gone back.”
He continued: “We are there right now. We can avoid it, Jack. If we continue to vaccinate people, we will get more and more protection, without abruptly withdrawing public health measures.”
“I can tell you and promise you, I talk to the CDC, (director Rochelle Valensky) every day,” he said. “He is well aware of the accumulation of data and the fact that his team will always act on the way data is treated.”
“We can do that today. We just need federal government vaccines,” he said. “We can’t buy the vaccine. We can’t make the vaccine. So if the president and his team are able to deliver, we don’t have to wait until May 1, we can get there quickly.”
In announcing its plans last week, the Biden administration believes the May 1 timeline is realistic, with new measures being taken, including expanding the types of professionals capable of running the vaccine. Dentists, veterinarians and paramedics will all be included in the new recognized list.
