Two area rap fans say they are shocked and devastated after an up-and-coming San Francisco rap artist was shot and killed in Dublin over the weekend.
“It’s a two-area legend, nothing can ever replace Lil Yes,” said fan Aaron Hayne.
Police say the 26-year-old, whose real name was Mark Antonio Alexander, was shot several times early Saturday morning, but who did what and why remains a mystery.
In fact, it is not even clear why it was in the Eastern Bay.
“We don’t really understand why he was here in Dublin,” said Captain Nate Schmidt of the Dublin Police Department. “We know he lives in San Francisco, a production company in Novato so what a tie in the city of Dublin.”
Police found his car parked on the street. He says he was shot outside his car on the 5100 block of Iron Horse Parkway. He saluted the flag of a good Samaritan who took him to the hospital.
“They had limited communication when they were going to the hospital although it was in and out of consciousness,” Smith said.
Police say Sara Samaritan suggested to the rapper that someone tried to rob him of his watch, a theory they are looking for.
“I believe this was targeted. I believe that person was at least someone who knew Mr. Alexander, “Schmidt said.
Although Lil Yess was tormented by guns and street life, his friend and business partner tells NBC Bay Area that it was nothing like his songs, calling him a gifted and genuine artist willing to work with anyone.
Fans say they are crushed
“Unfortunately we’ll never know the full potential,” said fan Aaron Hayne. “He lost his life very soon.”
Dublin police have been running through social media and phone records in hopes of links. He says this is the second massacre in his city since 2009, and it is up to everyone to solve it.
