A woman and her six children were tied up from a JetBlue flight at Newark Airport after their 2-year-old daughter did not want to wear a mask, according to a report.
The incident was recorded on video of the phone on the plane that was scheduled to depart from Orlando and shows Chaya Bruck, from Flatbush, Brooklyn, pleading with an air traffic controller to keep them on the plane because a many passengers approached the same thing, reports NBC New York.
“He said no, she should cover her nose and her mouth, and I said I could try, but then she pulled it away,” Bruch told NBC New York. “A few minutes later they came to me and they told me I had to collect my things and that I had to get off the plane.”
Everyone was ordered off the plane and Bruck and her family later boarded another flight to return home, NBC reported.
A JetBlue spokesman told NJ Advance Media that its face policy was renewed on August 10 and that it supports children 2 years and older to wear one, per CDC guidelines.
“In these unusual times, our first priority is to keep crew members and customers safe, and we have quickly introduced new safety policies and procedures throughout the entire pandemic,” the spokesman said.
He added that customers receive an email before describing their flight from security protocols and face coverage policies.
“Our crew members are ready to assist customers at the airport and on board who need support,” the spokesman said. “We have a flexible rebooking policy for those who are unable to meet this requirement, and customers who refuse to comply with these standards at the request of crew members will be checked for further travel accessibility on JetBlue.”
