When the various teams planned their various practice facilities, no one thought about the ease or difficulty of adapting the buildings to the realities of a pandemic. As a result, some teams are struggling to adapt their locker rooms and other work areas to meet NFL requirements.
In Atlanta, space is not an issue.
“We are lucky to have a lot of room and a massive setup,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said on Wednesday’s #PFTPM podcast. “In order for us to space out and make sure we are coded for all protocols, we have these types of townhomes that we stay in during training camp that are built right behind our facilities, that we are able to use as our locker room at this time. Each of us has their own bathroom, bed and dressing room, and all that sort of thing. We are uniquely designed to handle this, and our staff here has done an amazing job trying to make it as safe as possible for everyone and we appreciate that they do. ”
This type of arrangement not only helps limit the spread of the virus, but also gives players a greater sense of confidence and peace of mind, allowing them to focus more on soccer and less worry about the possibility of contracting viruses in the work and taking it home.
It also sounds like a perfect arrangement if / when the NFL decides to stiffen the bubbles on a team-by-team basis, requiring players to remain integrated into the team throughout the season, to prevent them from contracting the virus elsewhere.
