The outdoor gear retailer noted that it would switch its own functions to expand to multiple locations rather than being confined to one location, and would also increase reliance on remote work.
The property was never occupied by REI due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The Street Journal reported that the company was closed because its employees were going to work from home or from small offices in the area.
The other three Facebook buildings are next to the property and under development.
“The company’s office fees are still important to help accommodate the expected growth and meet the needs of our employees who need to work off campus,” a Facebook spokesperson told the Seattle Times.
