Extensive Google, YouTube outage due to server crash


At 6pm PT on Thursday, several Google and YouTube services were affected by a nearly 20-minute outage. After this issue was resolved, Google shared a brief technical explanation of what happened.

Compared to Outage which usually only affects G Sweet, YouTube and Play Store will not load, while we have problems with Google Home app. Nest identifies issues with the following aspects of its service: setup and pairing, nest applications, nest thermostat, nest secure, nest cam live video, nest cam video history, and more.

On the productivity front, users were able to access Gmail, Google Calendar, Groups, Chat, and Meet, but saw “error messages, high latency, and / or other unpredictable behavior.” On the mail front, messages will not be sent and stuck in the outbox. Finally, “There was No big impactOn Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for third-party companies hosting services, “but small APIs” were affected.

YouTube Tweeted The issue lasted about 15 minutes at its end, while the G Suite status dashboard did not return to Lilizandi until 7:07 p.m.

Google Infrastructure Chief Urs Hulzel took to Twitter In detail Issue, and apologize for going down these “critical” services:

Note that, some Google services were closed for some users from 00:00 pm to 23:23 pm PDT. A pool of servers that is the route of traffic on application backends has crashed and users of that particular pool have experienced outages. The GCP was not affected.

The postmortem is next that “sure this won’t happen again.” While not all users were affected, this was a wider Google (and YouTube) outage than usual.
