Expelled Manhattan federal prosecutor Berman to testify before the House next week

House Democrats have scheduled a transcribed interview next week with toppled US Attorney Geoffrey Berman, a powerful prosecutor from the Southern District of New York (SDNY) who was investigating President TrumpDonald John Trump House panel approves defense policy bill 0.5B House of Representatives panel votes against curtailment of Insurrection Law powers after heated debate Panel votes House of Representatives to restrict Afghan withdrawal, request evaluation on ‘incentives’ to attack US troopsassociates and family members before their dismissal.

Berman is scheduled to appear in a closed-door interview next Thursday, multiple sources in Congress reported to The Hill.

Berman’s appearance comes after Democrats announced last month that they would launch an investigation into the removal of the US attorney.

Democrats are particularly motivated to examine his removal because Berman led polls on multiple fronts, including whether Trump’s personal attorney, former mayor of New York City. Rudy Giuliani, violated lobbying laws for foreign interests in regards to Ukraine.

Lawmakers have voiced concern that Trump is trying to purge judicial officials he does not consider loyal, particularly in the SDNY, which is known for its independence.

Manhattan falls within the jurisdiction of the federal office, so the President’s business, which is based in the Big Apple, is also under his purview.

“This is a bomb. Was it the stealthy removal attempt by the United States Attorney made by AG barr to protect Donald Trump or his associates from the investigation or prosecution? The circumstances of Berman’s removal last month were also opaque, and the White House blamed the Attorney General. Barr first announced that Berman had resigned, but the US attorney later rejected a later statement denying that he had resigned and stating that he had no intention of doing so.

Not long after, Barr notified Berman in a letter that Trump had officially fired him. That same day, however, the president stated that he “was not involved” in the decision.

The White House later indicated that Trump only signed the decision, but that the decision was Barr’s.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters at a briefing that the president had only been involved “on approval.”

“The attorney general was taking the initiative in this matter. He did go to the president and informed him when Berman decided not to leave, and that’s when the president agreed with the attorney general, “McEnany told reporters during a briefing in June.

Berman, who was first appointed to his post in 2018, will be temporarily replaced by his former deputy, Audrey Strauss, who is considered a highly respected career prosecutor who can pick up the witness with such investigations.

Democrats began asking Berman to testify last month, asking him to join other whistleblowers and Justice Department (DOJ) officials to testify about the DOJ’s politicization under Barr and Trump.
