Executed Chinese drug trafficker escapes Indonesian prison through sewer pipes

Kai Changpan, also known as Kai Ji Fan, was sent to jail in the Tangereng area on the outskirts of the capital Jakarta on charges of smuggling methamphetamine. Last Monday, he escaped by digging a hole in the garbage pipes and on the road outside the prison from his cell, according to Jakarta police spokesman Yusuri Yunus.

Kai had been trying to escape for five to six months, according to his cell mate. He dug a hole in the prison kitchen using construction project equipment, Yunus said.

It was time for KEI to change prison guards, said Rika Apranti, a spokeswoman for Indonesia’s Directorate General of Prisons.

Kaine was sentenced to death in 2017 for smuggling 135 kilograms (approximately 300 pounds) of crystal meth, according to Indonesian news website Detic.com. Police investigations found 70 kilograms (154 pounds) hidden in chicken coop cleaner equipment.

This is not K’s first defense; In 2017, he broke a hole in a bathroom wall outside a police detention center in Jakarta. Following this recent escape, police are searching for him, along with Kai on their Most Wanted list.

Kaina’s representatives were not immediately available for comment.
