In the recording, posted online Tuesday, Levy looks at a series of pre-recorded messages, which the viewer can also view.
“Let me first say what an honor it is for me not to be there tonight,” said Steve Martin, who has worked with Levy in films such as “Father of the Bride” and “Cheaper by the Dozen 2.”
“To honor you and not really have to do much or go anywhere, just staying home is such a stress,” Martin added.
Normally, Levy could collect the distinction in person, but the ceremony was canceled due to coronavirus.
“Eugene is like family to me because we often eat in total silence,” Short said.
Levy’s son Dan, who co-wrote “Schitt’s Creek” with his father, also had his own tribute. “You are very good at what you do and you set a bar for everyone you work with,” he said.
“You are incredibly professional, you are incredibly friendly. And you have been such a role model for me, just in terms of how good, overall, and good you are at your job.”
“Schitt’s Creek” ran six seasons until its run ended earlier this year, receiving more than a dozen Emmy nominations.
Levy has also enjoyed a long film career, acting in the franchise “American Pie”, the “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” and many more.
“You’re the best example of how to be a human being and an actor and do it really well and be funny,” said Emily Hampshire, who played hotel beater Stevie Budd in the series.
Levy laughs as the tributes continue to roll, before eventually becoming visibly emotional.
“Look at this, are you happy now?” he said, wiping his glasses to wipe away tears.
