Xiaomi is rapidly moving towards improved wireless charging technology. We recently saw Apple introduce its iPhone 12 wireless charger called MagSafe. Now, the Chinese tech giant has started working in that area as well. With large smartphone companies shifting so rapidly to wireless charging, we can expect a complete switch to wireless charging in the next few years.

Xiaomi had recently brought out its 120W wired charger in early 2020. Now, the company launched an 80W wireless charging technology on October 19. The company published a blog post that mentions “100% in 19 minutes, no strings attached” to describe its new wireless charging technology. The previous wireless charger was 30W, but Xiaomi has come a long way to launch its 80W super fast charging solution.

Xiaomi claims that this wireless charging technology is way ahead of similar solutions offered by other smartphone brands. As is a bold claim, this charger can fill a 4000mAh battery from 0-10% in 10 minutes, 50% in 8 minutes, and up to a full charge in 19 minutes.

Xiaomi calls it a benchmark development and it could be true. As other smartphone companies are also rapidly moving towards wireless charging technologies, a huge leap from wireless charging from 30W to 50W to 80W surely seems like a huge leap in a short period. Other companies are likely to line up now to overcome this hurdle and come up with the next best solution very soon.

This was Xiaomi 3rd advancement in wireless charging technology. It first brought out its 30W wireless charger with the Mi 10 last year. This was followed by the Mi 10 Ultra which came with the launch of the 50W wireless charger. Now the company directs both wired and wireless charging.

To showcase Xiaomi’s new 80W wireless charging technology, the company uses a modified version of the Mi 10 Pro. The exact power distribution (amps or volts) is not clearly mentioned in the launch tweet. However, the tweet made by the company also comes with a video revealing more information about this new technology. The device appears to be charging at 4.5A or 18V, that is 81W, wirelessly. Under the hashtag ‘Innovation for all’, this is supposed to be a fast-charging next-generation technology.

Xiaomi is making complete progress in the field of battery and charging for its smartphones. Along with the launch of 120W wired charging, it’s also making great progress in the wireless charging industry. At this rate, it’s only a matter of time before we begin to fully rely on wireless charging.
