Xbox Series X price: what Microsoft’s next-gen console will really cost you

[ad_1]

Microsoft’s official list price for the new Xbox is $ 500 or $ 300, depending on the model. the Xbox Series X (which comes with an optical drive and 4K resolution outputs) is $ 500, while the more modest Xbox Series S retails for $ 300. The S Series has a slower processor, less internal storage, 1440p output instead of 4K and no optical drive. Despite the crippling inventory shortage, all major retailers continue to respect this price and sell the consoles at Microsoft’s list price. That’s a cold consolation though, when you consider that due to the chronic out-of-stock state, the only real market for the Xbox Series X / S is resellers, where it regularly sells for no less than double the price.

For months, whenever retailers got inventory and released units for sale, they were sold out in minutes, largely thanks to the use of bot resellers completing transactions much faster than any human. Some retailers have started cracking down on these reseller bots, but they continue to stop many people from getting consoles. These consoles purchased by bots are resold at a very high price. Right on the eBay example, it is possible to find the Xbox Series X priced between $ 700 and $ 1,100. Some of the more expensive deals are actually bundles that include accessories and games, but they are still too expensive and not a good value, especially since you probably wouldn’t buy the included accessories if you had the freedom to choose.

We have been offering the same advice for months: Wait until you can get an Xbox Series X at the retail price of $ 500 and avoid resellers and packages.

Meanwhile, Xbox restocks happen on a regular basis, and gamers with quick reaction times have managed to snag a console. We are on the lookout for inventory drops and let you know when they are imminent; be sure to check out our Xbox Series X Refueling Status Article for more details. Below is a list of top retailers (and a couple of big-name resellers, if you absolutely have to) to help you get your own console.

Xbox Series X Retailers and Resellers

When in stock. Amazon sells the Xbox Series X for $ 500 and the Xbox Series S for $ 300 on the same product page.

Best Buy lists the Xbox Series X for $ 500 on this page.

At GameStop, the Xbox Series X is priced at $ 500.

This is Target’s product page for Xbox Series X, where the console is selling for $ 500.

Walmart is offering Xbox Series X (when available) for $ 500. You may also want to visit the retailer’s Xbox home page for both new consoles.

NewEgg sells the Xbox Series X for $ 500 and the Xbox Series S for $ 300 on this page.

We highly recommend waiting for inventory to show up at regular retailers, so you can purchase an Xbox Series X at the regular retail price. If you can’t wait, you can find Xbox Series X consoles on eBay with bargains starting at around $ 500, but the actual selling prices are closer to $ 850 and up.

If you’re willing to pay hundreds of dollars above the list price, StockX is a trusted eBay-style site that will allow you to shop for new Xbox consoles. With that said, the lowest price we could find is around $ 650 and averages closer to $ 800.
