Yesterday, Microsoft released the latest Xbox console update and with it made new games added to Game Pass much faster to play thanks to preloading.
As Xbox Wire reports, the update is rolling out to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and the Xbox One family of consoles. A number of new features have been introduced, but top billing has to go to Game Pass game pre-installs. Game Pass members can see which games are “coming soon” to Game Pass and some of those titles will now include a pre-install option.
What it means is that you can choose to preload a game on your console before it is available to play. On launch day, you will be able to start playing as soon as it is activated because the installation has already been done. For Game Pass titles that do not allow pre-installation, Microsoft has added a feature to the Game Pass mobile app that allows you to “queue the rest to install on day one.” Assuming you have enough available storage space, you can play any pre-installed game while the rest download on launch day.

Another new feature includes an “X | S” badge that appears in title tiles that have been optimized for play on Xbox Series X / S. It allows you to instantly see which games you already own and which are optimized, as well as any games that are currently playing. considering buying to play on the new Microsoft consoles. There is also a new Auto HDR tag that will appear when you open the guide during a game if you are taking advantage of the feature. Auto HDR automatically improves the visual quality of some titles.
Finally, there are new customization options with the launch of six dynamic backgrounds, which allow customization of the home screen. Options include “tributes to previous generations of Xbox consoles and others based on popular profile topics.” And of course Microsoft included a number of bug fixes in the update to help ensure that everything works as expected.
