Microsoft’s head of gaming business Phil Spencer (pictured) has said the company’s recent acquisition of Bethesda will not make the studio’s games exclusive to Xbox hardware.
Speaking to Kotaku, the Xbox boss said that he wants the games to be played by as many people as possible. This, of course, is part of the reason that Microsoft has invested in cloud streaming and created a subscription service for video games.
“This deal wasn’t made to take games away from another player base like that,” Spencer said.
“Nowhere in the documentation we gathered was, ‘How can we prevent other players from playing these games?’ We want more people to be able to play, not less people to be able to play. But I will also say in the model, I’m just directly answering the question you had, when I think about where we are going to be playing and how many devices we had, and we have xCloud and PC and Game Pass and our console base, I don’t have to ship those games on any other platform other than the platforms we support on to make the deal work for us. Whatever that means. “
Microsoft bought Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax for $ 7.5 billion last month. This led to speculation that the company’s future launches could be unique to the Big M ecosystem itself.
