Zaha converted a recovered penalty in the second half and sealed the win with a hard-hitting shot that outscored David De Gea as Palace scored two wins out of two and repeated his win from last season at Old Trafford.
Donny van de Beek’s first goal on either side of Zaha’s double after Andros Townsend opened the scoring for Palace in the first half was the only bright spot for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, who finished last season with such flourish to claim a place in the Champions League.
There was little evidence of that quality, as United lost their first EPL game for the first time in six years, with a lack of pace in their defensive line evident when Townsend opened Palace’s account as early as the seventh minute.
Jeffrey Schlupp was able to evade Victor Lindelof and crossed for Townsend to score at the far post.
United improved towards the end of the first half but were still in debt to De Gea for a clever save from Jordan Ayew.
Palace captain Zaha had an offside goal disallowed before Palace earned a penalty as Lindelof was severely penalized for handball.
Ayew’s weak effort was easily stopped by De Gea, but the video assistant referee (VAR) judged that the goalkeeper had moved too early and from the second shot from the point it was Zaha who was in charge of scoring.
Former Ajax star van de Beek was called up from the bench to replace ineffective Paul Pogba and showed his scoring instinct to back down, but hopes for a revival at home were dashed when Ivorian international Zaha shook Lindelhof and scored third.
Calvert-Lewin hat-trick in Everton’s win
Earlier, Everton continued their magnificent start to the season with a 5-2 hit on newly promoted West Bromwich Albion.
Everton’s new signing James Rodríguez scored his first Premier League goal, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a hat-trick to add to his goal in a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on the first day of the season.
But the victory was not as simple as the score suggests, as Grady Diangana put Albion ahead at the start of the match at Goodison Park.
Calvert-Lewin tied before Colombian international Rodriguez passed them before being involved in a controversial incident just before halftime.
Kieran Gibbs received a red card for shoving former Real Madrid star in the face and Albion manager Slaven Bilic was also sent to the stands for protesting referee Mike Dean’s decision.
With 10 men, Albion drew just after the restrart through Mattheus Pereira before Michael Keane regained the Everton lead and Calvert-Lewin cemented the victory with his second and third goals.
At 23, Calvert-Lewin is the youngest Englishman to score a Premier League hat-trick for Everton.
Leeds, so impressive in the opening day 4-3 loss to Liverpool, secured their first win of the season in another seven-goal thriller, beating Fulham 4-3 at Elland Road when Helder Costa scored twice.
He opened the Leeds account before Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic leveled from the penalty spot in the 35th minute after a foul on Joe Bryan.
Bryan then conceded a penalty at the other end for a push over Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich restored Leeds’ lead with a 40-minute penalty shot.
Patrick Bamford made it 3-1 for Leeds early in the second half and the game looked better after another superb goal from Costa for the fourth.
But Fulham responded in the 62nd minute through Bobby Decordova-Reid and a superb header from Mitrovic four minutes later led to a nervous finish for Leeds before the points were sealed.
