Pyramids FC defender Wilfired Kanon was included in the 26-man Ivory Coast squad that will face Madagascar in the 2022 AFCON qualifiers.
Kanon made 26 appearances for the Pyramids this season, helping them qualify for their maiden CAF Confederation Cup final and finish third in the league along the way.
The 27-year-old has become a regular with the Ivory Coast team since 2015 and was even part of the team that won the country’s second AFCON title, playing every game of his campaign.
And despite missing the Elephants’ two previous friendlies against Belgium and Japan, he regained his place.
West Ham United and France’s forward candidate Sebastien Haller are also on the list. The 26-year-old represented the Blues in all youth categories, but never received a call for seniors.
Being of Ivorian descent, Haller will now receive his first senior cap as he faces Madagascar in the AFCON playoffs.
The first match will be played in Abidjan next Thursday, November 12 when Ivory Coast host Madagascar. With the second leg played five days later at the Barikadimy Stadium.
