Sagittarius is the global explorer of the zodiac, and this new moon broadens our horizons. Ironically, while the restrictions have dramatically affected our ability to travel, humans are sharing an unprecedented unified experience, from Peru to the Persian Gulf.
Sagittarius eclipses, which began with a lunar eclipse (full moon) on June 5, 2020 and conclude with a second solar eclipse on December 4, 2021, provide us with powerful lessons about travel.
As with any eclipse, there is a paradox. Environmental studies were already showing the serious impact of tourism on Earth. Yet economically, this Sagittarius-ruled area was rich in opportunity, tripling in growth to a $ 1.6 trillion industry in the past twenty years, one that allowed some of the poorest citizens on Earth to access money. People were exposed to foreign cultures, opening minds. But the hotels displaced indigenous populations, diluting the authenticity of previously protected areas. Inspired travel bloggers with stunning photos from their travels. Meanwhile, intrepid travelers lost the joy of discovery, as they could “experiment” and plan their entire trip before boarding a plane. In 2019 (when Jupiter was in its Sagittarius birth sign), Mt. Everest became so crowded with climbers that there were record tolls of deaths and injuries due to these “traffic jams”.
Certainly 2020 has been a very non-Sagittarius year for travel. (Not surprising either since the Archer’s ruling planet, Wanderlust-inducing Jupiter has been in Capricorn, its weakest “down” position. Light coating? This forced waiting time helped many realize that with a great adventure comes even greater responsibility. So when it’s safe to stay again, replace “Choose your own adventure” with “Design your own adventure.”
Plan carefully, taking time to think about how you will interact with the environment. From the landscape to the people and the food you eat (and the garbage you leave behind), you are not only “visiting,” but you are in symbiotic communication with your destination.
