Sony recently released a corporate report on the company’s financial future, which included details about its intention to port more PS4 games to PC.
The report is relatively long, but one of the most important conclusions can be communicated quite succinctly. Essentially, Sony has decided that it will make more of its catalog available on PC after the success of recent ports for games like Death Stranding and Horizon: Zero Dawn, the latter of which launched with a structure of questionable integrity.
“Sony Interactive Entertainment aims to achieve strong revenue growth by accelerating the virtuous cycle that has been established for the PlayStation platform,” the report read. “This means increasing active users and playing time, improving network services and strengthening the IP of content so that consumers choose PlayStation as their platform of choice.”
“Expected results include active user growth, higher retention and a shorter cash conversion cycle, from which an expanded cash flow can be expected,” he continues. “We will explore expanding our proprietary titles to the PC platform, in order to promote further growth in our profitability.”
Sony is not the only company that has recently benefited from the transfer of its games to PC; After the overwhelming success of Persona 4 Golden on Steam, Sega has stated that it intends to focus on “aggressively” porting other titles to the platform.
It’s worth noting that Sony’s most recent foray into the PC port involved the addition of Horizon: Zero Dawn to Steam. Despite being three years old, it sold immensely well from the start, coming in second to internet sensation Fall Guys on the Steam bestseller charts the week of its release.
Meanwhile, people are seriously taking advantage of the kind of stealth scanning that the PC enables; A particularly apt example of this was the discovery that Norman Reedus has no penis in Death Stranding.
In related news, the PS5 is expected to launch in mid-November, about a week after Xbox Series X.
