You should start making room in your entertainment center – photos of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S appeared in journalists’ living rooms today and they look huge.
While the Xbox Series S appears to be a slightly portlier version of the Xbox One X with a taller front end, and therefore won’t take up too much space in its current configuration, its older brother is another story: at 15.1 “x 6” x 12 “the Xbox Series X is a serious beast, and easily twice the size of other consoles.
GameSpot was one of the selected outlets to receive a non-functional ‘dummy’ unit for photos and compared it to the PS4 Pro, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One X.
The results are … well, almost comical, as GameSpot’s Michael Higham showed in several tweets:
I have in my hands the Xbox Series S and Series X prototypes … Submitted by Microsoft These designs are SLICK, especially the S Series! I did some size comparisons to the current generation, saw how they fit my bankrupt boy Ikea setup. Seriously, just look at it. And you have to be careful not to block the fan, as Higham points out:
yes it’s still a bit thick but you also need to make sure there is room on the right side (not like in this photo hahaha) since that’s where the fan is pic.twitter.com/m9RnrLpYpmSeptember 10, 2020
How much space do you need exactly?
Having current-gen consoles alongside newer consoles is quite helpful in determining exactly how much space we’ll need to reserve for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
For example, we can see from some of the photos that the Xbox Series S is almost exactly the same size as the PS4 Pro. The PS4 Pro seems a bit taller, but in terms of the two new Xbox consoles, the S Series is a 60% smaller than the Xbox Series X, according to Microsoft.
The best comparison for the Xbox Series X is against the Nintendo Switch, strangely, since it seems that the width of the two consoles (with Series X on its side) is practically the same. Of course, the X Series is much thicker than the Nintendo Switch and has the top rack that needs to be accounted for.
However, good luck fitting it into your home entertainment center.
