Apple’s new iPhone 12 range is selling like hotcakes, but millions of potential upgraders should now resist.
Discovered by MacRumors, a large number of users report that SMS messaging on new iPhone 12 models does not work. Complaints range from the inability to send or receive SMS, to the lack of messages in group chats and the absence of notifications of the SMS messages that are received. The problem also appears to affect some older models.
Consequently, the official Twitter account @applesupport is being illuminated up by frustrated users:
“@AppleSupport When will you fix the problem on the iPhone 12 pro where I, and most other iPhone 12 pro users, are not getting text messages?” – source
“I can confirm that this is true. I am about 1/3 of the text messages missing in a group chat with green bubbles and I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. My wife has an iPhone X with iOS 14.2 and none of it is missing. “- source
“Hi @AppleSupport, I just received my new iPhone 12 pro max and I am not receiving sms messages. Can you help? “- source
“When will the error that causes me not to receive all SMS text messages be resolved? I have been an iPhone user for 10 years, but I am about to return this iPhone 12 Pro. “- source
“@AppleSupport, is there a solution to the main problem that iPhone 12 is not receiving group text messages? This is getting very annoying. “- source
“@AppleSupport guys are you ever gonna fix the iMessage / text issue with the iPhone 12. It really sucks to lose 25% of my text messages.” – source
“I have not received text notifications since I updated my phone and I am SO ANGRY @ Apple” – source
“@AppleSupport Um, what’s going on with SMS TEXTS? I get text messages like 24 hours later. “- source
@AppleSupport I need the text message notifications bug fixed. I keep losing important text messages since I downloaded iOS 14. “- source
Interestingly, for some owners of older iPhones, it seems that this problem has been emerging under the surface since the arrival of iOS 14. But only with the launch of the new iPhone 12 models, the problem apparently became widespread, something that Apple has not yet recognized:
“I have trouble tickets with Apple and Tmobile and I still have nothing. Escalated to engineering but I haven’t heard anything. Apple technology HIGHLY suspected it was their problem, but it is widespread. “- source
I have contacted Apple and will update this article when I receive a response. In the meantime, given the potentially serious consequences of not receiving SMS messages (also crucial for two-factor authentication), I would advise buyers to consider any iPhone 12 model that they postpone their purchase until it is fixed.
