Every time a business has to start a tweet with “We can’t believe we have to say this,” you just know that some real 2020-level nonsense awaits you. Microsoft’s Xbox division did just that Wednesday in response to viral videos they show smoke rising from the top of their recently released Xbox Series X.

The tech giant got into a meme-filled mess apparently started by internet trolls who hoped it would look like Microsoft’s next-generation gaming console was on fire. In reality, it appears that users are blowing vape smoke into the $ 500 console and recording the effect as the smoke rises from the top of the black tower over the device’s internal fan.

At least one video on Twitter has attracted millions of views, and a plethora of responses ranging from funny to horrible.

“Please don’t blow vape smoke on your Xbox Series X,” Microsoft tweeted to the masses.

Another video shows viewers how the deception could be performed and shows the smoke from the vaporizer being blown near the bottom of the console coming out of the top.

Beyond its tweet, Microsoft said in a statement: “We take all product safety reports seriously and our products meet or exceed industry standards. We are in the process of investigating further. “

All ordeal comes at a time when relying on what we see on the Internet is a major and constant concern. But other tech giants are grappling with real problems related to devices that are actually catching fire. Amazon-owned Ring, for example, announced this week that it is recalling 350,000 of its video doorbells after reports that security devices could pose a fire hazard if installed incorrectly.

While we wait for the smoke to clear over this apparent Xbox non-issue, take a look at the reaction:
