A Steam Client Beta update on November 12 has confirmed that PlayStation5 DualSense and Xbox series controllers are now supported at a basic level in the PC game client.
At the moment, there is no support for the trackpad, gyro, enhanced noise, or haptic triggers, all features that are being used to great effect in next-gen games.
Sony has already committed to moving support for its new controller to older games like Last Of Us Part II Y God of War allowing players to feel the tension of the bowstring and the enhanced feedback from Kratos’ ax and shield, using features that NME Review said it was “a game changer” in our review.
PC games are unlikely to make use of these features without mods, as the PS4 DualShock panel swivel and touchpad features don’t work natively in Steam games, but at least this support bodes well. For PC gamers with newer consoles who want to use their controllers on both.
Checking out the Xbox Series X, NME He said: “The Xbox Series X is a smooth little unit with an exceptional catalog of games, thanks to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass gambit and diligent backward compatibility measures.
“A laid-back design makes it look lush in your living room, but the ultimate proof can be found in the pudding.”
