Updated player appearance, fixed to combat online cheats, and more

On Wednesday, 2K released a promising Courtside Report detailing a ton of offensive gameplay features for the next generation.

Later in the afternoon, the 2K team released a fairly good-sized set of patch notes that breaks down the updates to the current-gen version.

I’ve said this before, but 2K deserves some credit for returning to its more transparent approach with these updates. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are still some details left in these patch notes, but at least it’s not a total insult to your consumers’ intelligence as it has been for the past two or three years.

The main parts of this update offer content for 2K Beach events associated with Halloween, and also prepare for the MyTeam Tournament events.

Perhaps most importantly in the game, 2K has added a fix to counter cheaters who have been using modified controllers to bypass the point-when-shooting mechanic.

Here’s a look at the patch notes provided by 2K.

general

  • Halloween has arrived at 2K Beach! Beach goers will now find Halloween-themed decorations throughout the neighborhood.
  • Player visuals have been improved for over 60 NBA and WNBA players.
  • Welcome to the NBA Finals! Heat vs. Lakers is now Quick Play’s default matchup.
  • Preparations for the new 2K Beach events to be held in late October and November. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks!

How to play

  • Adjustments to make screen movement more realistic.
  • Fixed content holes leading to inconsistent jump shots with side steps.
  • Changes to the Shot Aiming system to avoid abuse of the modified controller.
  • Dribbling moves in the park (still performed with L3) now require the Hall of Fame Tight Handles badge to wear. Parking dribble motions are also disabled when prompting screens to avoid conflicts with the side-shift feature of the screen.

My career

  • Fixed some issues where MyPLAYER would not gain new fans after certain in-game achievements.
  • Fixed a crash that could have occurred when exiting MyCOURT after playing a 2v2 or 3v3 game on MyCOURT

My team

  • Preparations for the first day of play of the MyTEAM $ 250,000 Unlimited Tournament!
  • Preparations for the second season of MyTEAM!
  • General improvements to The Exchange.
  • Added a warning when skipping silver or gold badge updates for Hall of Fame badges.
  • Fixed an issue when player cards were spawning on Ball Drop boards

MyLEAGUE / MyGM

  • Fixed an issue where the wrong logo may appear when downloading another user’s save via the new Save to Share feature.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur in Play WNBA or NBA Today after being in WNBA Season mode.

There are some other things that have been updated in the current generation version of NBA 2K21 that have not appeared in the notes. There was an issue with draft classes on MyLeague where players were entering at advanced ages. That seems to have been fixed based on my own testing and what I’ve seen from popular YouTubers like Clique Productions.

Also, the number of anklets has increased dramatically since the game was released with this almost non-existent game skin.

It will be interesting to see if this will be the final update of the current generation for a while, as we focus solely on the next generation, or if joint efforts will continue on both versions.

Stay tuned.
