Google just confirmed that users who encounter a bug stating that Android Auto is not compatible with Google Pixel will soon get a fix in a new version of the app.
The problem only affects the Pixel 3a XL, Google says, and was first reported in late 2019 on the official Android Auto forums.
More specifically, users claimed that the Android Auto update was not possible simply because the app was no longer appearing in the Google Play Store, while using the direct link leads to a message stating that “this app is no longer supported your device. “
Google began investigating what happens in mid-2020, and a member of the Android Auto team recommended that users double-check if the application they are trying to update was the full version and not the one that was intended to run on the phone screen.
“If you are using Pixel 3, Pixel 3a and Pixel 4 devices on Android 10 and you get this error message ‘This app is no longer compatible with your device. Please contact the developers for more information. ‘Could you please check if the app you are trying to update is Android Auto or Android Auto for phone displays?”Says a message posted in June 2020.
“Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 4 devices do not need Android Auto for phone screens, allowing Android 10 devices to display the Android Auto app icon as these Pixel devices already have the icon enabled. You are expected to get the error message if you are trying to update Android Auto for phone screens instead of Android Auto.“
This week, however, the search giant confirmed that it managed to fix everything, and a future version of Android Auto would finally return things to normal on the Google Pixel 3a XL.
Google is projected to release a new Android Auto update next week, but at this point, it’s not yet known whether or not a fix for this compatibility bug is supposed to be included.
