Popular Eastern European tourist destination: Ukraine has reopened its borders once again on September 28, 2020.

Ukraine imposed a ban on foreign nationals from entering the country due to the growth of coronavirus cases between August 29 and September 28.

The Ukrainian government will not close its borders again after the entry ban expired on September 28, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told Kyiv Post.

Foreigners can only enter Ukraine with valid health insurance, details below.

Countries in the red zone vs. those in the green zone

Ukraine divides the countries into two zones; Red and green. The Ministry of Health reviews the list of countries in each area every 7 days.

the “Red zone” consists of countries where the number of COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days is higher than the number of cases in Ukraine.

Likewise, those countries where there was an increase of more than 30% of new cases in the last 14 days compared to the last two weeks.

Citizens arriving from countries in the “Green Zone” you do not need to undergo self-isolation.

The countries of the Green Zone are:

Citizens arriving from Countries of the “red zone” power choose one of the three options:

1. Observation on specialized insulators;

2. 14 days of self-isolation at the place of residence for people who have agreed to submit to it using the “Diy Vdoma” mobile application;

3. Pass the COVID-19 test using the PCR method after crossing the state border.

According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated July 22, 2020 No. 641 (taking into account the changes dated September 28, 2020), self-isolation is not subject (if there is no reason to believe that it following people were in contact with a person with COVID-19):

1. people under 12 years of age,

2. persons who come to Ukraine for the purpose of studying in higher education institutions,

3. people who are citizens (subjects) of states with a generalized COVID-19 and have not been in the territory of said states in the last 14 days or are sent through the territory of Ukraine in transit and have documents confirming the trip abroad in two days,

4. employees of diplomatic missions and consular offices of foreign States, representatives of official international missions, organizations accredited in Ukraine and members of their families,

5. drivers and crew members of cargo vehicles, buses performing regular transport, air and sea crew members, river boats, train crews and locomotives,

6. instructors from the armed forces of NATO member states and member states of the NATO Partnership for Peace program who participate in training activities for units of the Armed Forces,

7. Cultural workers at the invitation of a cultural institution, together with a person, accompany each of them,

8. people carrying hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation,

9.People who test negative for COVID-19 by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, which is carried out no more than 48 hours before crossing the border.

Medical insurance is required

Foreigners can only enter Ukraine with valid health insurance issued by a Ukrainian insurance company or a foreign company with an office in Ukraine. Insurance should cover the potential costs of treatment and observation of COVID-19 in Ukraine.

From now on, foreigners can enter Ukraine. Currently there are no separate requirements for foreigners to self-isolate or have travel medical insurance when they come to Ukraine.

The policy must include the reimbursement of expenses related to the treatment of COVID-19 and be valid for the duration of the visit to Ukraine.

Citizens of Ukraine or persons with a permanent residence permit in Ukraine it is not required to have an insurance policy.

Can US citizens travel to Ukraine without quarantine?

Currently, all US citizens must self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival.

When entering Ukraine, they must have a working mobile phone on arrival and download a “Diy Vdoma” smartphone app, through which the Ukrainian authorities will track whether they are complying with the quarantine. the Diy Vdoma app available on the App Store and Google Play.

If you were in a country in the Green Zone within the last 14 days, you will not need to quarantine yourself. Another option is to have a negative PCR test result in no more than 48 hours before crossing the border.
