UAE space agency cooperates with NASA in astronaut training

Berlin, September 22, 2020. – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to develop its international network and cooperate with NASA to train four Emirati astronauts, the WAM news agency reported on September 21.

“The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced today that they have signed a strategic agreement to train Emirati astronauts at NASA,” the report says. The training program will be held at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

Under the program, astronauts will be trained to handle various missions on the International Space Station, including simulated spacewalks and long-term stays, along with training in main systems, robotics, extravehicular activity, T-38 reactor courses, survival in water. and land, Russian language skills and theoretical training, according to the report.

“The global space sector relies on international cooperation fostered by establishing alliances and building bridges of knowledge with leading international space organizations and agencies,” said Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, president of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center. “The strategic partnership with NASA, a pioneer in space for more than 60 years, supports the strategy of the UAE National Space Program.”
