Hundreds of Israeli residents, on December 6, were denied entry to the United Arab Emirates apparently due to problems with VISA. Times of Israel reported. The incident that took place at the Dubai airport was resolved four hours after the intervention of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, it marked the first of its kind since the United Arab Emirates recognized Israel as a state and allowed its residents to enter the Emirates.

200 passengers affected

According to Channel 12 news, up to 200 travelers who landed in the Emirates capital on Monday morning were informed that due to changes in VISA regulations, only those with non-Israeli passports could enter the country. However, after the intervention of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, all the passengers applied for electronic visas and the matter was resolved.

In September this year, the United Arab Emirates and Israel signed the Abraham agreement brokered by the US administration led by Donald Trump. The seven-page document emphasized the belief that the normalization of Israeli and Emirati relations is in the interests of both people and contributes to the cause of peace in the Middle East and ultimately the world. While Israel has blatantly claimed Palestine, the UAE has been silent on the cause. Later, in a separate statement, Israel’s Foreign Ministry said the problem was solved through the intervention of officials at “the highest levels” and that Israelis would soon be allowed in.

While this was flagged as a temporary failure, Saudi Arabia made a permanent decision in favor of the deal. Earlier this month, it was reported that Saudi Arabia agreed to allow Israeli commercial jets to use its airspace while traveling to the United Arab Emirates. According to Israeli media reports, Saudi Arabia, after holding talks with US President Donald Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner, agreed to allow Israeli planes to cross its airspace while visiting the UAE. Israel and the United Arab Emirates recently signed the US-brokered Abraham Accords to normalize ties and have initiated air services to and from their respective nations to implement the agreement.
