A new report claims Foxconn’s foldable iPhone tests consisted of two completely separate designs, both of which passed assembler quality control.
Following previous rumors that Foxconn is testing a foldable iPhone, a new report says it was in fact testing two competing designs for Apple. The test was carried out at Foxconn’s factory in Shenzhen and is said to have concluded with both designs passing quality control.
According to UDN money, it was not finished phones that were tested but rather the cases of these two folding designs with, presumably, screens. The test was specifically to measure the durability of the folding mechanism.
One of the designs is said to resemble the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, or the Lenovo Moto RAZR, with an internal folding screen flip phone style. The other is claimed to be a dual-screen model, more like an open book like the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
UDN money He speculates that Apple will further evaluate both models and then drop one.
Apple’s tests of folding iPhone designs follow both many years of rumors and many patent applications on the subject. Previous Foxconn testing reports have included claims that Apple will release a foldable iPhone in September 2022.
UDN has a decent track record when it comes to Apple’s supply chain. It has a noticeably worse one at predicting Apple’s future product plans. Thursday’s report is a hybrid of the two.
