Twitter is expanding its voice tweets feature to more users on iOS. Introduced in June, this feature allows users to tweet using their voice via a new ‘wavelength’ icon. Twitter also plans to add audio and video transcripts to make them more accessible. The microblogging platform had come under fire for failing to consider accessibility when it began testing voice tweets a few months ago. Twitter said it would start rolling out voice tweets for Android and Web in 2021.

Twitter Announced which would launch voice tweets to more iOS users, so that I could continue to learn how people use audio. The voice tweet feature captures up to 140 seconds of audio in a single tweet, but has only been made available to a limited number of users so far. Twitter also said that it was currently working to bring voice tweets to Android and the web in 2021.

Twitter had received backlash for not considering accessibility after introducing voice tweets in June. The company said in a cheep today that he had taken the comments seriously and was working to make the transcripts available so that voice tweets were more accessible. The social media giant said the audio and video transcripts were part of its broader plan to make Twitter accessible to everyone in all features, existing and new.

After being criticized for not being accessible enough, Twitter had, earlier this month, Announced two new teams he was building to focus on accessibility. The Accessibility Center for Excellence will set goals and drive progress to help make some aspects of Twitter more accessible. The Experience Accessibility team, meanwhile, will focus on new and existing features and products on Twitter, with the goal of providing greater accessibility on the microblogging platform.

Twitter will also start testing voice direct messages soon.
