Koeman on Wijnaldum’s interest
Ronald Koeman has lamented that Barcelona missed a summer contract for Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Dutch midfielder has around eight months left on his current contract at Anfield and was prepared to meet his former Dutch coach at the Camp Nou.
However, the Lionel Messi saga ultimately ended up overshadowing all other Barca affairs, which had other more pressing needs to address.
“In my mind, I always assumed that he [Messi] it would stay, ” Koeman told Algemeen Dagblad in the Netherlands.
“If Messi had left, it would have opened up a completely different situation.
“Our interest in Wijnaldum, in any case, was separate from [Messi]. Overall, I think our team could have done it with a little more depth, especially without the ball.
