TPLF wants to work with the Defense Force and the Judiciary as it ends its relationship with the government led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed

Political members appointed at the federal level of government, members of the House of People’s Representatives of the Tigray region and members of the Federation House of the Tigray region are hereby ordered to cease membership.
TPLF spokesperson Getachew Reda said the terms of the Federation House and the House of People’s Representatives came to an end on September 25, 2013 Ethiopian Calendar (October 5, 2020).
He told the BBC Amharic Service that representatives of both houses who came from the Tigray region would not participate in the opening ceremony of the sixth-year session of parliament on Monday.
“Representatives from Tigray are told to leave the house. Not only parliament, but also those who worked in the cabinet and other political positions had been forced out of office, ”BBC Amharic quoted Getachew Reda as saying.
Parliament reopened on Monday afternoon around 2 pm local time in a room inside the Prime Minister’s office. It was President Shale-Work Zewde who delivered the keynote address. No comment was made on the TPLF decision. The terms of the houses were extended as the sixth general election was canceled due to the coronavirus situation in the country. Last month, the Health Ministry informed parliament that the Ministry had developed the capacity to identify and prevent the pandemic and that the election could take place in specific circumstances that the parliament accepted, and that preparations are underway to hold the elections. during this Ethiopian year.
The opening session was a joint meeting between the House of Representatives and the House of the Federation. TPLF announced that it will not recognize the two houses, the prime minister and his cabinet members as of October 5, 2020. The terms of the two houses were extended in June 2020 after a constitutional inquiry commission recommended it. until a relevant authority confirms that the coronavirus disease is no longer a threat to public health.
Getachew Reda said on Monday: “As of now, the prime minister and his cabinets, as well as members of the House of People’s Representatives and members of the Federation House do not have any legal power; and it is unthinkable that there is any legal relationship with these entities ”. He also said that Tigray’s regional relationship with these entities is ending.
However, TPLF authorities said they would continue to work with the Defense Force, diplomatic mission institutions and justice institutions.
TPLF’s decision not to recognize the federal government is exacerbating the tension between these entities. This week, Federation Chamber Speaker Adem Farah told local journalists that the TPLF measure is putting the constitution at risk and that there is a constitutional basis for the federal government to act. The suspension of the House of Representatives and Executives of the Tigray region is one of the constitutional measures that the federal government could take.
Furthermore, the Spokesperson added that there is a constitutional basis to form an interim administration in the region and to deploy federal security forces in the region.
