Apple CEO Tim Cook has tweeted in response to Facebook claims that ad tracking on iOS 14 will be “devastating” for small businesses.
Following the Facebook blog post and two newspaper ads claiming that Apple’s privacy features will irrevocably damage the internet, Tim Cook has tweeted about Apple’s position.
We believe that users should be able to choose between the data that is collected about them and how it is used. Facebook can keep tracking users through apps and websites like before, the app tracking transparency in iOS 14 will only require that they first ask for your permission. pic.twitter.com/UnnAONZ61I

While Facebook’s public position is that Apple’s upcoming iOS 14 privacy feature will be “devastating” for small businesses, it expects to lose revenue. Having previously estimated a 50% drop in ad revenue, he now predicts 60%.
Ad tracking is now expected to hit iOS 14 in early 2021. It will mean that users will be notified that an app wants to track their usage and will ask them to accept or decline it.
Separately, Apple’s new privacy labels on the App Store are intended to inform users what their data will be used for, before they download an app.
