Nebiyu Sehul Mikael is the head of the Tigray Prosperity Party office. In a statement, he shared on Friday; He said that his party has legal, moral and popular legitimacy.

After September 30, he says, the only power of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in the region will come to an end. “Who will administer after that?” I ask.

And then he himself replied: “It is easy. It is the prosperity party and the prosperity government. It has multifaceted authority to govern Ethiopia, and it is an expression of the fate of the ongoing reform measure, ”he said.

Given TPLF’s position and its willingness to go to war to defend what it calls “the interest and people of Tigray”, it is likely not as easy as Nebiyu Sehul Michael’s claim.

TPLF released a statement this week saying it will have its own elections in the Tigray region. The president of the Ethiopian National Electoral Board, Birtukan Mideksa, said that the TPLF authorities in the region do not have the constitutional right to hold elections in Tigray.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his part broadcast a thirty-minute video message on Thursday this week. He said his government will be forced to take action against those who intend to have an election against the constitution and the decision of the electoral board.

There is a possible conflict that could take a military form; many Ethiopians tend to see it that way if TPLF insists on organizing elections in the Tigray region.

Ethiopia has canceled the general elections scheduled for August due to the Coronavirus situation.
