In an earlier edition of this story, comments attributed to former West Indies cricketer Roland Holder were in fact made by former England batsman Roland Butcher. Sportsmax.TV unreservedly apologizes for the error and any unforeseen inconvenience or impact that may have resulted from it.

Former England batsman Roland Butcher doesn’t think West Indies Test cricket captain Jason Holder should be called up to the T20 team, despite several recent meritorious performances in the format.

The off-roader last represented the regional team in the shortest format of the game in India last year. However, since the resumption of cricket, the player has made some notable T20 performances. In the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Holder was the third leading scorer for the Barbados Tridents with 192 runs in 10 games and had a high score of 69. He also had an impact with the ball after claiming 10 wickets, the second more on the team.

Despite not initially being drafted into the Indian Premier League (IPL), Holder was called up to replace Mitchell Marsh with Sunrisers Hyderabad. In three games he has managed to claim six plots so far. Although they are currently out of the playoff spots, the Sunrisers are still in contention with a handful of games to play. However, the player has not been included in the T20 squad to face New Zealand next month, which Butcher insists is the right decision, at this point.

“I think Jason, based on his performance on the CPL, could have been considered, but again, I wouldn’t want to burden Jason, with all the different disciplines he already has to play,” Butcher told the Mason and Radio Guest Show.

“He is doing well as a test captain. He is an integral part of the team for 50 years as a player. Why would you want to go and force it with T20 right now? He’s one of our players that is working, so why would we want to overload him so that he doesn’t perform? ”.
