It took a while, but the Switch has two very shiny new ones. Monster hunter games on the way next year.
Specifically, the two games in question are Monster Hunter 2: Wings of Ruin stories and Monster Hunter Rise.
After the success of the first Monster Hunter Stories On the 3DS, I’m not surprised we have a sequel on the way and from the trailer (shown below) the game looks lovely.
Unlike the main games, which I’ll get to shortly, the Monster Hunter Stories The games are closer to a traditional RPG and are aimed at a younger audience.
The 3DS had a massive user base of kids in Japan, with games like Yo-Kai Clock and Pokemon being a big hit on the handheld, so this new Monster Hunter Stories The sequel is probably aimed at a younger Switch Lite audience than anything else.
As for Monster Hunter Rise, this is a very interesting addition to the series. In that last great main line Monster hunter The game we had on Switch was the excellent port of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate in 2018.
That was a very good game, but in the time since we had Monster hunter world And it is Iceborne It also does surprisingly well on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
However, considering the enormous success of the Switch, it was only a matter of time until we saw a new game in the series hit the platform.
Again, the game looks great (as shown above) and uses the new RE Engine, which is an interesting option. Additionally, the game will allow players to ride their new canine friends named Palamutes.
The Japanese version of the game is also getting a huge 55cm Palamute plush, so I hope it makes its way west as well at some point as it looks really quite adorable.
Monster Hunter Rise will premiere on March 26 and Monster Hunter 2: Wings of Ruin stories It will be available in the summer of next year. Both titles will be exclusive to Switch.
