The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Kenya rose to 82,605 after the health ministry announced 949 new cases on Saturday.
The number of Kenyan cases has seen a steady increase since October, even as the government remains optimistic the virus will be under control.
The Health Ministry also announced 4 new deaths, bringing the country’s total death toll to 1,445.
Kenya’s number of cases is the sixth highest in Africa, only overshadowed by the numbers recorded by South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia and Tunisia.
Its death toll is also the sixth highest on the continent.
Virulent government-imposed measures remain in place in efforts to curb further spread of the virus, including a nationwide nighttime curfew and a ban on large gatherings and the mandatory use of face covers in public.
