The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa rose to 2,644,112 on Sunday, as countries on the continent continue to record steady increases in their number of cases.

The figure was confirmed by the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa), which also noted that the number of deaths related to COVID-19 stood at 62,366.

The only other country that has reported more than 100,000 COVID-19 cases are Egypt (131,315), Tunisia (130,230) and Ethiopia (122,413).

A total of ten countries in Africa have recorded more than 1,000 virus-related deaths.

Data from Africa CDC also showed that the continent had recorded 2,212,975 successful recoveries.
