Apple plans to launch a new iPad Pro model imminently, perhaps as early as next month, according to sources cited by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who has accurately predicted several Apple product launches in recent years.
The report claims that the new iPad Pros will come in the same 11 and 12.9-inch sizes that they are currently offered in and that they will also look similar to current models. However, they will have better cameras, faster processors, a new port and, at least on the 12.9-inch model, new screen technology.
The biggest surprise in this article is that the new port would be the same as found on Apple laptops: Thunderbolt. Bloomberg sources say that Apple has been testing versions of the iPad Pro that can connect to more external monitors and other types of peripherals due to the inclusion of a Thunderbolt port.
However, they don’t make any sense as to whether external monitor support will improve from the basic mirroring implementation we see on the iPad right now.
The new iPad Pros will have a new, faster chip that is more comparable in performance to the M1 found in the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro introduced last year. And at least the larger of the two iPad Pro models would have a new Mini LED display, joining a trend in that direction among many electronics manufacturers looking to make cheaper and stronger LCD displays competitive with OLED.
The report does not give details on the upcoming camera changes, it only says that they will be better than the cameras of the current models.
Bloomberg concludes with a reminder that his sources have previously told him that Apple plans “major updates” for the iMac and MacBook Pro, as well as AirTags, the company’s long-delayed competitor to the company’s Tile with augmented reality features. .
It was widely rumored that Apple would host an event to announce new iPads and perhaps other products next week, but the window in which invitations for such an event would normally be sent has passed, suggesting that it won’t happen after all.
However, Apple announced an iPad Pro update around this time last year, so Bloomberg’s claim that a new update will arrive in April seems plausible.
