An upcoming major update to the Xbox app for iOS will allow users to stream games from their Xbox consoles to their iPhones and iPads. The same feature was recently rolled out in beta for Android users (after being tested as Console Streaming about a year ago) and its iOS debut is also imminent, in time for the November 10th launch of the latest Xbox. Series X and Series from Microsoft. S.
The app will be able to start your Xbox, which will turn on silently and without turning on the status light, and you will be able to do so both over Wi-Fi when on the same network, as well as truly remotely over a mobile network. You can then browse your Xbox content on the iPhone and use your screen to display the games running on the Xbox, minus the TV. The functionality is not to be confused with xCloud, the cloud-based game streaming platform where Apple and Microsoft still have a few things to figure out.
The remote play feature is accessed from the My Consoles section in the redesigned Xbox app. The full review, as detailed in TheVerge, includes a new home screen, friends tab, search interface and My Library tab (where the My consoles bit is).
Xbox remote play is similar to Sony’s – PS4 game streaming capability that has been available on Android and iOS since last year.
The new Xbox app for iOS is still in testing with TestFlight members, but a public release will be released soon.
