The League plans 35 consecutive days of action beginning with the restart of June 12

The League plans to restart its campaign on June 12, starting a festival of 35 consecutive days of soccer.

The heads of the Spanish league want the season to resume and complete in June and July, with August destined to end the Champions League and European League campaigns.

Classic rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid are locked in a two-horse race at the top of the table, with the Catalan giants currently holding a two-point lead with 11 games remaining.

But there is a fight underneath, with Sevilla, Real Sociedad, Getafe, Atlético de Madrid and Valencia separated by just five points, as they try to secure the places in the Champions League.

At the bottom, Espanyol is six points safe but is joined by Leganés and Mallorca in the last three, which are three points and one point from remaining in the top flight respectively.

Celta Vigo, Eibar and Real Valladolid are the sides that look over their shoulders.

The teams have resumed training in Spain with simplified closure measures, although there are strict measures of social distancing and testing requirements.

The League must wait for the Spanish government to give its plans the green light before confirming its restart structure.

When asked about a possible resumption of the season, La Liga president Javier Tebas said: “I don’t know.

“It will depend on the [government] stages. I hope it is June 12. It will depend on the waves of the virus.

“The First and Second divisions will be completed at the same time. There will be soccer every day for 35 days.”

Sevilla sports director Monchi says the plan is to restart the season with the Seville derby between his team and Real Betis.

“There is no better way for La Liga to return than this derby,” he said. “It will be one more incentive, as we all look forward to the return of football and that first match will be magnificent.”
