The Flaming Lips cover George Jones for new movie ‘Arkansas’

The Flaming Lips has released a version of the George Jones classic “He Stopped Loving Her Today” today (May 5).

The song will be featured as part of the new movie. Arkansas, a dark comedy about drug trafficking in the southern United States, starring Liam Hemsworth, Vince Vaughan and Clark Duke. The Flaming Lips can be seen performing on stage in a scene taken from the film. Look the following video.

The film, based on John Brandon’s best-seller, is the directorial debut of actor Clark Duke (Kick-Ass, The Office, Hot Tub Time Machine). The description in the video of The Flaming Lips tells the plot of Arkansas “He weaves together three decades of drug trafficking in the Deep South to explore the cycle of violence that turns young men into criminals and old men into legends.”

It is not the first time that ‘Lips put their twist on a classic cover. Last year, the band fronting Wayne Coyne paid tribute to independent pioneer Daniel Johnston with a performance of his seminal song “True Love Will Find You In The End.”

In recent years, The Flaming Lips has also paid tribute to characters like The Beach Boys and The Beatles with covers of well-known songs. They have also done works by David Bowie on several occasions.

Last year, The Flaming Lips celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the release of their seminal album “The Soft Bulletin”.
