Like its 2018 predecessor, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales It ends with an explosive final chapter in which our hero and those closest to him are in grave danger, but overwhelming forces also threaten New York City. And in a somewhat formulated way, not everyone comes out unscathed.
Here’s what happened and how it will affect the inevitable full sequel, Spider man 2.
Needless to say, MAJOR spoilers for Spider-Man: Miles Morales follow.
What you need to know first
The entire game takes place during winter break, which for many is a time when we reconnect with loved ones rather than fight crime with spider-themed superpowers. Miles manages to do both by reconnecting with his old friend Phin Mason, a girl he grew up with, while fighting the criminal organization called Underground of which Phin is an important part.
They broke up after going to different high schools, and pretty quickly in the game’s history, we learn that Phin’s last years have been just as transformative as Miles’s.
His older brother Rick worked for Roxxon Energy Corporation on a substance called Nuform that promises endless renewable energy, but the company’s CEO, Simon Krieger, has gone to great lengths to hide the fact that Nuform has a deadly impact. in anyone exposed to it over time. Rick himself was terminally ill when he started trying to destroy Nuform completely, but was killed by Krieger.
Phin takes the nickname “The Tinkerer” and joins the Underground in hopes of destroying Roxxon entirely, engineering a kind of programmable matter that can seemingly do just about anything. (It’s similar to what Tony Stark uses in Avengers: Infinity War Y Endgame.)
So while Miles and Phin reconnect as two young men who really should get married by now, they end up directly fighting as Tinkerer and Spider-Man with Roxxon caught in the middle. Along the way, Miles uses his new bioelectric Venom powers to destroy as much Nuform as possible; You can absorb all the energy and then release it from your body in a small explosion.
How does everything play out in the end?
It all comes to a head when Phin tries to blow up the Nuform reactor in Harlem, thinking that it would only destroy Roxxon’s headquarters without victims. But in reality, the chain reaction would wipe out the entire area, perhaps killing millions. She and Miles fight, almost to the death, as the reactor destabilizes.
Miles absorbs all of reactor power, which is what is happening in the trailer for the original ad.
With moments to spare before the energy surges out of Miles and kills everyone in the vicinity, Phin changes his mind. She channels all the programmable matter she can gather into her boots to launch them far into the air where Miles can safely explode. Miles survives and falls to the ground without his mask, but not Phin. The status quo has been restored for the most part, except that now a handful of trusted people discover Miles’s true identity.
Whats Next?
The people of Harlem begin to refer to Miles as “our Spider-Man”, and he seems more on an equal footing with Peter’s Spider-Man compared to before. Krieger is jailed after Prowler, a villain (who is actually Miles’s uncle), provides the evidence and testimony. While Roxxon and the subway are mostly in ruins, they could still appear in the future. Phin seems to be the only character here who will never return.
It’s unclear exactly how the inevitable sequel to Spider-Man might play out, but the ending of Miles Morales implies that both versions of Spider-Man could be played in the sequel. It would be an interesting way to tell a new kind of Spider-Man story.
Much like the 2018 game’s post-credits scene, there are also hints that Harry Osburn will appear in the next game as a version of Venom, as he is infected by Venom Symbiote.
