The Apple TV app is now available for Google’s Chromecast 2020. In December it was announced that Apple’s streaming app, offering access to its original Apple TV Plus, would be coming to the cumbersome Chromecast with Google TV. Starting today, owners of the excellent $ 50 device can download Apple TV and start using it.
Apple TV originals like Ted lasso, The Morning Show, Y For all mankind will appear in Google TV search results and recommendations. Notably, you will also be able to add Apple original shows and movies to Google TV’s universal watch list. Some larger streaming services like Netflix have decided not to participate in Watchlist in the months after Chromecast launched, apparently preferring to keep that kind of functionality within the app. What 9to5Google reported in November, the Google TV mobile app no longer even includes Netflix recommendations.
Apple TV is also integrating the Google Assistant into Chromecast; you can start watching any of the Apple originals with a voice command.
In addition to being the home of original Apple programming, the Apple TV app offers easy streaming of your movies / TV shows and Apple purchases. And just like other platforms, all Apple TV add-on channel subscriptions you may have (CBS All Access, Showtime, etc.) will be available in the app on Chromecast with Google TV.
Jonathan Zepp, director of media and entertainment at Google, says that “in addition to Chromecast with Google TV, the Apple TV application will also be available on Google TV from Sony and TCL.”
