Dubai: The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority released a clarification on Sunday about the new small green or yellow dot that appears in the upper right of the screen near the signal strength on the screens of your iPhones in the last two days.

The clarifications state that with the new iOS 14 “when you see the green or orange dot at the top of the iPhone screen after updating to iOS 14, it is an alert that the application you are using has started using your camera ( green) or microphone (orange) “.

This feature was added by Apple for security. TRA added “If you notice that the marks appear although it is not necessary, this may mean that the application is trying to open the camera or microphone without your permission, and if this happens, we recommend that you contact the developer of the app for clarification or to remove the app and report to the app store. “

Apple released its fourteenth operating system for its iPhone and iPod, iOS 14, at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 22, 2020 as the successor to iOS 13.

The goal of the new mobile operating system was to make data more secure than ever. The flag is one of the new privacy features in iOS 14, and Apple says privacy is “a fundamental human right and at the center of everything we do.”

Many features were introduced to increase your security and privacy, and here are some of them

1) Know when apps use your camera and microphone – With the iOS 14 update, you will see an indicator dot at the top right of the screen, green means camera and yellow means microphone. With this new feature, it will be impossible for applications to make recordings or take photos without your knowledge. If you drag down from the upper right corner of the iPhone screen to open the Control Center, you will see information about the apps that most recently used your camera or microphone, if you want to check again.

2) Limit access to photos and location: In iOS 14, a new feature lets you give you the approximate location of apps that need to know where you are to function properly, without revealing exactly where you are. So you will be able to change your location settings to only show your approximate location, rather than your exact location, which is useful for things like weather and news alerts.

3) Strong passwords – Your phone will also keep track of the passwords you have saved and tell you if any of them have been compromised. The company said it “uses strong cryptographic techniques to regularly verify your password derivations against a list of broken passwords, in a secure and private way that does not reveal your password information, even to Apple.”
