Take-Two, the parent company of both the 2K franchises and Rockstar Games, has made a “possible offer” to buy British developer Codemasters for approximately $ 973 million. The reason this is not a direct purchase yet is because the Codemasters board of directors is discussing the deal, although they will most likely agree to the terms and the purchase. If the deal goes through, Take-Two will add a large number of IPs to its library, which includes the popular Dirt racing franchise. In addition to owning Codemasters, Take-Two would also own the rights to Slightly Mad Studios, whose developer Project Cars.

Following the announcement, Codemasters shares rose approximately 8.6%, as did Take-Two, which rose 2.9%, indicating a fairly general level of enthusiasm for the purchase on the part of shareholders. In accordance with the UK City Code rules on acquisitions and mergers, Take-Two can fully commit to the deal if accepted by the board of directors, or revoke it and withdraw entirely before December 4. of this ongoing deal are very good and would bolster Take-Two’s future gross / net income for the foreseeable future.
Codemasters may not be the best-known developer outside of its native UK, but the company has been releasing titles since 1986, the best known being the aforementioned. Dirt series that used to be called Colin McRae Rally. The most recent entry, Dirt 5, released this week for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, where it has generally been well received thus far. The game will also be a launch title for both Xbox Series X / Series S and PlayStation 5, and will also launch for Google’s Stadia in 2021.
